As last year, we are again holding the annual EuroPython conferernce as an online conference. This year, we will be using a more integrated conference system based on Matrix to make navigation better and provide a more streamlined experience.
Hallway Track
We all hope to recreate the glory of the Hallway Track where we've met and made friends. So we have set up a virtual space: the EuroPython 2021 Lounge (hosted on wonder.me) where everyone can move around, meet, have video chats with each other. In addition, we will have a hallway chat channel on our conference system.
Sponsor Exhibit
Sponsors will have a dedicated area on our social platform, so you can pop in to say hi any time. They will also have a video channel on our conference system, where they can do presentations, demos or even run additional talks, training sessions, etc.
The exhibit will be available to sponsors for all three conference days.
Presentations & Tutorials
Training sessions and workshops (Jul 26 & 27) and conference talks (Jul 28-30) will take place in the following formats.
Training & Workshops
Training sessions and workshops will be held in Zoom webinar/meeting tracks or similar technology of 3 hours of duration each, with break(s) in between.
Talks
Speakers will be invited to give their talk on a software with staging capability. Each talk will be either 30 or 45 minute duration. Q&A sessions will take place at the final 5 minutes of each meeting. All the videos will be integrated in the conference system for attendees to watch and ask questions in one place. Additionally, we will have separate breakout text and video chat where attendees can ask additional questions, similar to what we have at the in-person conference.
Posters
Posters will be collected into a gallery page, together with PDF versions of the documents. Poster sessions will then be held in a special "Posters" area in the EuroPython 2021 Lounge, so that the speakers can answer questions and present more details of their work using screen-sharing.
Lighting Talks
Lightning talks will be held in the plenary "Optiver" track. The proposals will be collected on a Google Form that will be made available in the announcements room on the day of the Lightning Talk session, similar to how we run this at the in-person event.
Open Space
We will have an open space tracks at the conference, where attendees can schedule their own sessions and then run them using the Matrix built-in Jitsi. We will set up a Google Sheet to register and coordinate sessions. The link will be posted to the announcements room and also placed on the schedule.
Sprints
Sprints will take place on Saturday, Jul 31, and Sunday, Aug 1. They are free to attend, but do require registration.
Each team will receive a chat channel with a built-in Jitsi room for collaboration. To submit a proposal, please follow the instructions on the Sprints page.
